For the best defense, Flying, Fire, Steel types have very effective defense against Swadloon, and will be resistant to damage from Swadloon's STAB attacks:

Rock types will also deal super-effective damage against Swadloon, but be careful using Pokemon of this type because they may also receive extra damage from some of Swadloon's attacks!
