Welcome to Pokemon Weakness!
I hope you find this site useful! Its purpose is to help you win more Pokemon battles by taking advantage of your opponent's type weaknesses by attacking them with the correct Pokemon type, and attack type.
How to Use This Site
You can click here to search for a Pokemon's weakness by its name, or click here to search by its type (including dual types), or click here to search for Pokemon Violet and Scarlet Tera Raid Pokemon weaknesses and counters, which is a unique merge of up to three types.
Pokemon Weakness Multipliers
Pokemon types and their attack types increase or decrease the damage that is dealt, depending on the attacker and defender's types.
There are 18 different types in Pokemon, these are: Bug, Dark, Dragon, Electric, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Grass, Ground, Ice, Normal, Poison, Psychic, Rock, Steel, Water.
Each Pokemon can have 1 or 2 types. Pokemon with 2 types are also known as dual-type Pokemon.
Weakness multipliers come in the following ranges:
Not Very Effective: 0.25x, 0.5x
No modification: 1x
Super Effective: 2x, 4x
These multipliers are different between core series Pokemon games and Pokemon GO. Type weaknesses have less of an effect in Pokemon GO. Here is a table that shows the differences:
Attack Effectiveness | Pokemon GO | Other Pokemon Games |
Super Effective | 2.56x | 4x |
1.6x | 2x | |
Normal | 1x | 1x |
Not Very Effective | 0.625x | 0.5x |
0.391x | 0.25x | |
Immune | 0.391x | No Effect |
How the "Same Type Attack Bonus" (STAB) Works
In addition to making the most of an opponent Pokemon's weaknesses, you can also take advantage of the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB) that multiplies with weaknesses.
In core series Pokemon games, the Same-type Attack Bonus is a 50% boost (1.5x multiplier) that's applied to attacks that are the same type as the Pokemon itself. Dual type Pokemon have STAB applied to attacks that have either type matching that of the Pokemon itself.
There are cases where a Pokemon game uses a different STAB multiplier. "Pokemon Legends: Arceus" STAB has a 25% increase (1.25x multiplier) , "Pokemon GO" uses a 20% increase (1.2x multiplier).
In Pokemon Violet and Pokemon Scarlet, a Pokemon that is Terastallized into one of its original types, the STAB multiplier is 2x, instead of 1.5x.
Here it is in table form:
Pokemon Game | STAB | % Boost |
---|---|---|
Core Series Pokemon Games | 1.5x | 50% |
Pokemon GO | 1.2x | 20% |
Pokemon Legends: Arceus | 1.25x | 25% |
How STAB works together with Pokemon Weaknesses
STAB multipliers combine with Pokemon weakness multipliers. The calculation is multiplicative.
Calculation: Total Attack Damage = Base Attack Damage x STAB Multiplier x Weakness Multiplier
Here is a scenario of how STAB combines together with a Pokemon's weakness multipliers:
- Kadabra is a Psychic type, and Machamp is a Fighting type
- Kadabra attacks Machamp with 'Confusion' (Confusion is a Psychic type special move)
- Psychic moves deal 2x damage to Fighting types due to weakness multipliers
- Normally, the Psychic special move Confusion does 50 damage
- But with the Same Type Attack Bonus (STAB), with Kadabra and Confusion both being Psychic types, increases Confusion's damage from 50 to 75 (50 x 1.5)
- Psychic vs Fighting type 2x weakness bonus further increases Confusion's damage from 75 to 150 (50 x 1.5 x 2)
